Archival Art Print

A fine art reproduction of an original painting created with pigments made by hand from earth, stone and mineral.

Each original begins with place: gathered material is processed, ground and mulled into watercolour paint in my studio, then used slowly and intuitively to create the finished work. These archival prints preserve the subtle variation, granulation and imperfect beauty of the handmade pigments while making the work available beyond the original painting.

Printed in my studio on heavyweight archival fine art paper with pigment-based inks for beautiful colour, detail and longevity.

Because the original works are made from natural pigments, their colours carry the character of the materials themselves- sometimes soft, sometimes granular, sometimes unexpectedly vivid. That unpredictability is part of the work.

About the Earth Pigment Series

This body of work is an ongoing exploration of colour, place and attention.

I make paint from natural materials gathered or sourced for their pigment: earth, ochres, minerals and stone. Rather than trying to make them behave like conventional commercial watercolours, I let the materials retain their own character—the sediment, texture, variation and limitations that tell you something about where the colour came from.

The result is a record of both the subject and the material used to paint it.
